Two Student Alumni Council members

Date/Time:  Once during each semester
Location:
  Kentucky Fried Chicken to Wall Street
Description:
  The Student Alumni Council has adopted this area off campus to clean.  Gloves and plastic trash bags are provided for cleaning by the Carbondale Beautiful office.  A sign recognizing SAC is erected on our Spot.
Contribution to our mission:
  Clean streets enhance the student experience and help alumni feel better about their loyalty to the university.
Value:
  Service to the SIU and Carbondale Community.

Alumni Appreciation Events

Date/Time:  Two in fall semester; one in spring semester

Description: 
An event planned around Saluki Athletics or a Shryock Program.  Free game tickets are given to SIU Alumni Association members and pregame gatherings with food and beverage are planned.  Special pricing and a pre show meal for Shryock events.
Contribution to our mission:
  Assists our parent organization, the SIU Alumni Association.  Involvement with alumni promotes student-alumni interaction and cultivates relationships between past and present students.

Student Alumni Council members at a conference

Date/Time:  Annually in April
Location:
  A different campus within District 5 (Midwest) each year
Description:
  This program includes communication with ASAP and especially our district, but the primary purpose is to coordinate our involvement in the annual District 5 Conference.  The conference is an opportunity for collaboration among students in our geographic area who are dedicated to educational advancement.  Student members and advisors from colleges and universities in District 5 teach and attend sessions to help other student advancement groups be more affective upon their return to their respective campuses.
Contribution to our mission:
  Attending the District Conference provides our organization an opportunity to learn how other groups pursue advancement and allows us to help other groups with their advancement efforts.
Value:
   The Student-Alumni Council has adopted programs and methods learned from other organizations in our district.

Big Brother/Big Sister

Date/Time:  during football games, basketball games, and concerts
Location:
  McAndrew Stadium or SIU Arena
Description:
  This is a fundraiser which the Council participates in between four and six times a year.  Members setup, manage, and tear down a concession stand used to sell food and beverages to game or concert attendees.
Contribution to our mission:
  Enhances teamwork among Council members.  Funds raised support the two Super Student scholarships awarded each year.
Value:
  Through the scholarships SAC is able to recognize and reward their fellow students for their contributions to our alma mater.

Description: 
Each year Alumni who have achieved success and recognition since their graduation are honored on the SIU campus.  A ceremony is held in their honor.  Council members assist in the selection process and at the ceremony.
Contribution to our mission
:  Assists our parent organization, the SIU Alumni Association.  Brings the campus community together.  Increases visibility of alumni with the Wall in the Recreation Center.
Value added:
  This is service to the university and assists in creating loyalty to SIU. 

Three Student Alumni Council members

Description:
  Council members bring closure to the year by gathering for a meal paid with money raised by the group throughout the year.  Awards and recognitions are given at this dinner.  The torch is passed to the next years officers.
Contribution to our mission:
  Gives the Council an opportunity to recognize its members for their exceptional service to their alma mater and the SIU Alumni Association.

  Student Center Auditorium
Description: 
The ceremony is designed to recognize those SIU students who give up their spring break to participate in the Extern Program.  Council members assist at the ceremony.
Contribution to our mission:
  Supports our parent organization.  Is a service to SIU students.  This program provides alumni-student interaction for the Extern participants.

Description:
  Our group assists the Alumni Association with their 50th and Half Century Class Reunion.    
Contribution to our mission:
  Working with alumni on campus promotes student-alumni interaction, helps alumni feel loyalty to the university, and cultivates relationships with past and present students.
Value:
  Working with these alumni helps form mutually beneficial relationships with alumni.  Saluki Spiritis celebrated, and alumni are connected back to our alma mater.

Description:
  The Council is very active in the University’s Homecoming.  The Friday of Homecoming the Council volunteers to assist the SIU Alumni Association with the Half Century Club Reunion.  Members attend the Friday night Pep Rally.  On Homecoming day, the Council traditionally has a parade float entry and they assist with the alumni tailgate, which has close to 2,500 visitors for free food and entertainment.
Value:
  This is a service to the university and community.  Encourages alumni to join the SIU Alumni Association and connect with our University..
Value:
  This event highlights the individual strengths of our campus: leadership, diversity, academics, the arts, athletics and alumni. It also unites us all in our student Southern experience.  Homecoming involves SAC with SIU.

Description:
  The Orientation curriculum is structured to educate members, especially those new to the organization, about our purpose and objectives as well as the way in which we operate. 
Contribution to our mission:
  Members learn our mission and goals during orientation. 
Value:
  After going through orientation, members should be well-versed on the basic structure and operations of the organization and should know who to contact for further assistance and advancement as a member.

  SASF tailgate tent on Saluki Row; Green Room in the SIU Arena
Description:
  The Council assists the Saluki Athletics program by volunteering to work at their Student Athletic Scholarship Fund tailgates and at four pre-game basketball functions (Green Room).  Council members volunteer at other Athletic activities as asked.
Contribution to our mission:
  Saluki Athletics provides SAC with a stipend at the end of the year for their service.

Description:
The Student Alumni Council hires an expert on job hunting.  JobBound knows what companies want in future employees and that inside knowledge is shared with junior and senior students that will soon be entering the workforce.
Contribution to our mission:
Provides fellow students with an experience that enhances their education.
Value:
  Students feel good about an alma mater that provides opportunities to be successful upon graduation.

Description:
  Everyone likes to have some fun.  SAC plans socials at the bowling alley, a Halloween party, moonlight canoeing, pizza night, spaghetti night, etc.
Contribution to our mission:
  Create strong bonds between Council members.  Provides members with experiences that will enhance their time at SIU which in turn creates loyalty.
Value:
  SAC is a better organization and can accomplish much more if members get to know each other and have a sense of community with their fellow SACers.  Everyone needs to have some fun.

Description:
  A meal of chili and sides prepared by chili expert, Mike Ashner.  Eating, games and socializing.
Contribution to our mission:
  Creates good memories for SACers and prepares members to better conduct the business of creating loyal alumni.
Value:
Allows Council members to reconnect after a long Christmas break and get motivated for a productive spring semester.
