The Southern Illinois University Alumni Association and Student Alumni Council recently presented Distinguished Senior Awards to 25 outstanding SIUC students at an annual spring “Super Student Honors Dinner.”
The Distinguished Senior Award is presented to 25 standout SIUC students. In order to qualify for the honor, students must have a minimum grade-point average of 3.0, be a graduating senior who has contributed to the University and Carbondale communities, answered two essay questions, and provided letters of recommendation. The Office of the Chancellor, the SIU Alumni Association, and Student Alumni Council hosted the awards banquet for the recipients and their families on April 10, 2010.
“These students are deserving of this honor,” Chancellor Samuel Goldman said. “They have distinguished themselves academically throughout their undergraduate careers at SIU. But their dedication extends beyond the classroom. These students are making the world a better place, and we appreciate their commitment and their many contributions.”
Student recipients received recognition plaques, Saluki “puppy” statues, SIU license plate frames, SIU Alumni Association tee shirt, and a first-year membership in the SIU Alumni Association compliments of the Vice Chancellor for Institutional Advancement. The Association is a dues-driven organization and members allow our organization to support student excellence programs such as the 25 Most Distinguished Senior awards.
