What is the purpose of the SIU Alumni Association?

The Association exists to connect Salukis and strengthen bonds among alumni and with the university through events, programs, and initiatives that reflect the SIU experience. 

Who can participate in alumni events and activities?

Any SIU alumnus, friend, or supporter can engage with events, networking groups, publications, and online activities. The Association is no longer an annual dues-based membership organization. Life membership is still being offered as an opportunity to support the Association programs and events.

What kinds of events does the Alumni Association host?

The Association organizes a range of activities including SIU Homecoming (a major annual reunion and celebration), regional alumni gatherings, networking events, and signature programs that connect alumni with current students and each other.

How can I find events or groups near me?

You can explore upcoming alumni events and locate regional alumni networking groups through the Association’s website and event calendar. 

Does the Association offer ways to support student–alumni connections?

Yes. Pprograms like alumni hosted dinners and networking initiatives bring alumni together with current students to share insights, mentorship, and professional connections.

Is there a magazine or publication for alumni?

Yes. SIU Alumni Magazine is published digitally four times a year with stories about campus updates and alumni impacts around the world. There is no longer a printed version of the magazine available.

Does the Association support alumni entrepreneurship?

The Association launched Saluki Market, an online marketplace that highlights products and brands by SIU alumni, students and friends of SIU Carbondale, making it easy for the Saluki community to support one another. 

Can I volunteer or play a role in alumni activities?

Absolutely! Alumni can engage as hosts for community programs, help lead networking groups, serve on committees, or assist with local events, enriching the overall alumni network. Every two years the Association also puts out a national call for individuals who may be interested in serving on the national board of directors.

How do I stay informed about opportunities and news?

You can follow the SIU Alumni Association on social media, visit our website, view the online magazine, and check the events calendar regularly for updates and engagement opportunities.

Organizational Governance

The Southern Illinois University Alumni Association (hereafter referred to as “Association”) and the Southern Illinois University Foundation (hereafter referred to as “Foundation”) are jointly committed to maintaining the trust and confidence of our alumni, members, donors, and friends.

An important benefit of your affiliation with the Association and/or the Foundation is the opportunity to receive communications, offers, products, and services. For this reason, we want you to understand how we obtain information and protect your privacy.

If you are an alumnus of Southern Illinois University Carbondale (hereafter referred to as “University”), information is obtained from your University student record. Nonpublic personal information about alumni, members, donors, and friends is obtained from personal interactions, communications, surveys, transcript requests, and activities with the University and its affiliates.

The Association and/or the Foundation restrict information access to only those who perform authorized activities. The Association and the Foundation have implemented physical, electronic, and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure this information, prevent unauthorized access, maintain data accuracy, and ensure its appropriate use.
